Lou Holtz, the legendary college football coach, famously said, “show me someone who has done something worthwhile, and I’ll show you someone who has overcome adversity.”

Adversity has been very present in my life. I have a deep appreciation for people who find a way through and bring others along with them. Abdullah Prattis one of these people.

It is somewhat of a miracle there is even a story to share about Abdullah. Growing up on Chicago’s South Side, his brother and fourteen other family members and friends were murdered. Deeply disturbed by the gun violence and health inequity, he attended medical school to become an ER surgeon. After earning his wings to escape the hardships, he stayed – to help his community.

Much of my time is spent working with companies who want to define their purpose and infuse it across the business. They need to follow the footsteps of Abdullah. He uses his training to save lives. He uses his heart to change them.
